Pasta sticks mainly because its surface releases starch and, during the first minutes of cooking, wet pieces can remain in contact long enough to bond. As the outside hydrates and gelatinizes, it becomes temporarily sticky. If two strands of spaghetti lie against each other without moving, the starch-rich surfaces can act like glue.
That is why the most important time to stir is not at the end but immediately after the pasta goes into the water and during the beginning of cooking. Physical separation prevents the sticky layer from forming a durable bond.

After draining, the surface is still moist and starchy. Leave the pasta in a colander for several minutes and the pieces cool while touching one another, creating a dense block. The better solution is not an oil bath but having the sauce ready.
Moving pasta directly into the sauce with a splash of cooking water keeps it moving and uses released starch to make the sauce more cohesive. That solves both clumping and the problem of sauce sliding off the noodles.
