Blood Spot in an Egg: What It Is and Whether It Is Safe to Eat
A small blood spot on the yolk or in the white usually forms when a tiny blood vessel ruptures during ovulation or egg formation. USDA states that this does not make the egg unsafe. It also does not mean the egg is fertilized. If the shell was intact, storage was appropriate, the odor is normal, and the white has no unusual pink or iridescent discoloration, the egg can be cooked normally.
