Do you need to rinse every type of rice?
No. Rinsing is a cooking choice, not a universal requirement. Basmati, jasmine and other fluffy long-grain preparations often benefit because rinsing removes loose surface starch. Risotto rice is usually left unrinsed so its starch can help build creaminess. Many U.S. white rices are enriched, and rinsing can wash away added iron and B vitamins.
