Blueberries and strawberries often share the same yogurt bowl, smoothie and antioxidant list. Their overall nutrition profiles are more alike than different, but strawberries contain substantially less sugar and much more vitamin C for the same weight.
The per-100-gram comparison is useful for standardization, but real servings vary. A cup of sliced strawberries and a cup of blueberries do not weigh exactly the same, so the difference by household volume will not match the table perfectly. If you are tracking a specific amount of carbohydrate or vitamin C, weighing a serving once can be informative. For everyday eating, it is enough to remember that both are relatively low-energy whole fruits.

The fiber difference is small—only 0.4 g per 100 g. The large differences are vitamin C, sugar and calorie density.
The sugar number does not make blueberries a “high-sugar food” in the same sense as a sweetened product. Their sugar is packaged in a fruit with water, fiber, and intact plant structure. Strawberries contain roughly half as much sugar by the same weight, but both can fit comfortably into a typical diet. The contrast becomes more important when portions are very large or when comparing dried, sweetened, or syrup-packed versions.

Strawberries clearly lead in vitamin C in the USDA comparison, while blueberries provide more vitamin K. Neither difference means you need to choose the same berry every time. Micronutrient intake accumulates across the day and week. Rotating berries with citrus, kiwi, and other fruits creates a broader nutrient pattern than trying to optimize every bowl for one specific vitamin.
Does that make strawberries better?
If your specific comparison is vitamin C or lower calorie density, strawberries clearly lead. If the target is vitamin K, the USDA blueberry reference is higher.
But turning every nutrient into a winner-take-all contest misses the larger point: both are whole fruits with water, fiber and different mixtures of phytochemicals.
Polyphenols are a large family and are not well summarized by a single “antioxidant score.” The dark blue color of blueberries reflects a particular anthocyanin profile, while strawberries provide different anthocyanins along with far more vitamin C. Concentrations vary with cultivar, ripeness, and storage. Lists that declare one universal winner usually overinterpret one measurement and ignore how complementary the phytochemical profiles can be.
The pigments differ too
Blueberries contain a broad mixture of anthocyanins responsible for their blue-purple color. Strawberries also contain anthocyanins, with pelargonidin derivatives prominent in their red color.
Darker color is not a universal health score. Cultivar, ripeness, storage and analytical method all affect measured polyphenols.
Commercial freezing often happens close to harvest and makes berries available year-round. Texture softens after thawing because ice crystals disrupt cells, but frozen berries work very well in oatmeal, yogurt, smoothies, and cooking. If you want a comparison similar to fresh fruit, choose packages without added syrups or sugars. Sweetened frozen fruit is a different product nutritionally.
Fresh or frozen both work
Unsweetened frozen berries are a practical alternative when fresh fruit is expensive or out of season. Jam and sweetened berry products are a different comparison because added sugar raises the energy and sugar concentration.
There is no need to crown one global winner between fresh blueberries and strawberries. Rotating both gives you different nutrient and phytochemical profiles.
For most people, the deciding factor can simply be taste, price, and season. If you want maximum vitamin C with fewer calories, strawberries have an advantage. If you prefer blueberries, the higher sugar number is still modest in a normal serving of whole fruit. Mixing the two is also a good reminder that a nutrition comparison does not need to produce one permanent winner.
