How to thaw meat safely
USDA recognizes three safe methods for thawing meat: refrigerator, cold water and microwave. A small 1-pound package may need a full day in the refrigerator or an hour or less in cold water. Meat thawed in cold water or microwave should be cooked immediately; counter thawing is unsafe.
