Homemade plant drinks are nutritionally different from fortified commercial products. Texture can also signal why protein numbers differ. Thin almond or rice drinks often contain a small amount of the original food relative to water, whereas soy and pea beverages can be formulated with more protein solids. The front label rarely tells you that as clearly as the nutrition panel.

For children under two, plant drinks require extra care because many are not nutritionally equivalent to breast milk, infant formula, or whole cow’s milk. Families using plant-based alternatives for allergy, vegan diets, or medical reasons should choose age-appropriate products with professional guidance rather than relying on an adult beverage ranking.

For adults, the simplest comparison is usually protein per cup, added sugar, calcium, vitamin D, B12, iodine when present, and total calories. Reading those lines side by side prevents marketing terms such as creamy, original, or barista from distracting from the nutrients that actually matter for the intended use.
