A home carbonator gives you another option because you can control the intensity of the bubbles without changing the rest of the drink. For day-to-day hydration, the better choice is the water you can comfortably drink and enjoy consistently, provided it is plain or unsweetened. Tap water is inexpensive and is fluoridated in many U.S. communities; sparkling water adds sensory variety without requiring a sugary soda. If carbonation worsens reflux, gas, or bloating for you, still water is likely the more comfortable choice. If bubbles help you move away from sweetened drinks, sparkling water may be especially useful. The bottom line is simple: plain sparkling and still water hydrate comparably.
