Should you wash fish before cooking it?
No. Washing or rinsing raw fish before cooking is not needed for safety and can increase cross-contamination by splashing germs onto the sink, counters, utensils or ready-to-eat food. If the surface is very wet, pat it dry with disposable paper towels instead; safe handling and adequate cooking do the actual food-safety work.
