Prunes: fiber, sugar and nutritional value
Prunes concentrate nutrients and sugars as fresh plums lose water. Per 100 g they provide about 240 calories, 38 g of sugars and 7.1 g of fiber. A 30-g serving—roughly four to five prunes depending on size—has about 72 calories, 11 g of sugars and 2.1 g of fiber. Their effect on bowel function is not just about fiber; prunes also contain sorbitol and other fruit compounds.
